I’ll admit I sometimes twist a story about the Yankees or Jeter for comedic effect and/or to get at a larger truth.
But I really wasn’t doing that here. I thought I was being pretty fair to Jeter, actually.
I explicitly wrote, “I’m sure Jeter didn’t ask for this girl to be fired.”
In fact, I’d be surprised if Jeter even knew about the incident. I agree the fired girl is primarily responsible for her dismissal. AND YET, the restaurant owner’s quote (”I’ll take Jeter over that bimbo any day.”) makes it sound like he thought he had to choose between Jeter and the girl.
